Giant Fennel Resin
Giant Fennel Gum Resin is oleo-gum-resin harvested from incised rhizomes and basal stems of Ferula communis L., a type species of Ferula in Apiaceae. Widely distributed across Mediterranean coasts, North Africa and arid West Asian highlands, it has two distinct chemotypes (toxic and non-toxic). This tall herb is commonly named giant fennel. Its resin has long been applied in Mediterranean and Arabic traditional herbal and incense systems, while its young inflorescences are locally consumed as vegetable. It has weaker sulfurous odor than common asafoetida with limited commercial availability and often mixed with galbanum or standard asafoetida. Today it is occasionally used for natural extraction and vintage perfumery.
