Khinjuk Mastic

Khinjuk Mastic is an oleoresin exuded from incised trunks of Pistacia khinjuk Stocks, a xerophytic deciduous tree of Anacardiaceae. It naturally grows in arid highlands of Iran’s Zagros Mountains, Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is an ancient Near Eastern aromatic resin, identified as the historic Sntr used in Egyptian Kyphi incense blends. This species is commonly employed as rootstock for edible pistachio trees, with limited resin yield and often confused with Pistacia atlantica resin and Greek mastic. Featuring mild nutty and subtle pine-balsamic notes, it has long been used for oral care, astringent herbal remedies and ritual incense, and is now applied in natural perfumery, essential oil extraction and aromatherapy.
