Southern Iranian Galbanum is oleo-gum-resin harvested from incised rhizomes and basal stems of perennial herb Ferula rubricaulis Boiss. (Apiaceae), named for its characteristic reddish-purple stems. Sourced from arid stony highlands of southern Iran, it is classified as secondary commercial Galbanum. Chemically distinct from premium northern Iranian Ferula gummosa, it contains far less undecatriene and carries stronger earthy resinous character. Cost-effective, it is widely used for bulk essential oil distillation, conventional fragrance bases and herbal formulations, rarely applied in fine perfumery.
