Somali Frankincense Resin

Somali Frankincense (Boswellia carterii Birdw.) is an oleo-gum-resin exuded from incised bark of Burseraceae species, mainly harvested in arid rocky zones of Somalia and Ethiopia. It is the most classic and widely traded frankincense with a long history in ancient Red Sea spice trade and sacred incense. Typically formed as tear-shaped granules, it is classified as gum resin containing polysaccharide gum, terpenoid resin and volatile oil. With balanced mild aroma, it is widely applied in aromatherapy, perfumery fixation, space incense and raw material extraction, and recognized in pharmacopoeias.
